youths in Poverty (Classism)

(d) Micro Theme 1 Research Paper: Identification of the Group Programs & Interventions (100 points) Due 3/3
For this assignment, you will need to select one social injustice & a selected sub category of youth (ex. ableism/autism) who experience the social injustice from the list provided below. Review research literature about this group and then write the micro theme related to the group you selected (6-8 pages), in addition to your cover and reference page). The micro theme is to be written objectively not subjectively. The use of I will result in a deduction of points. Be certain to integrate knowledge from class readings and discussion, citing only academic references to support your argument. You are required to find five appropriate academic references other than your text to clarify your argument and support your position. The required or optional texts can be used in addition to the other references and will be expected to be a part of your reference page if you chose to use citations from the text. This paper must be written in APA style or points will be taken off.1. Define the social injustice and describe the specific category of youth you have selected. Then, discuss the common experiences related to your chosen social injustice (at the familial, community, societal level) that influence the development of healthy & unhealthy coping strategies by group members, e.g. How is racism experienced by African American youth? How is homophobia experienced by gay teens? How is classism experienced by youth who live in poverty? etc.
2. Identify which unhealthy behaviors are prevalent among those who are identified with this category on the micro, mezzo and macro level. How do those who experience this social injustice cope in negative ways?
3. Identify strengths/resiliency among those who are identified with this category. How do those who experience this social injustice cope in positive ways?
4. Describe diversity within the group, e.g. Does everyone experience the social injustice (racism, homophobia, classism, segregation, or violence) in the same manner? Does everyone cope with the social injustice in the same manner? Describe what is known about these differences. Include gender, race, ethnicity, etc
5. Based on your discussion (1-4) identify effective helping strategies (formal) for confronting youth-related problems at the micro, mezzo and macro levels, specific to the youth category you selected. Discuss both effective youth prevention and treatment approaches.
6. Finally, in greater detail, describe at least one prevention or treatment program that has been shown to be effective (via evaluative research) in assisting youth from the category you selected. The use of strategies discussed in course do not quantify for the researched prevention or treatment program. (Please discuss with the instructor if you have questions).
