Task: The term paper has 2 parts. Part 1 is a review of an aspect of the theory/philosophy of yoga (15%).
Part 2 is how the chosen topic is and can be used in modern life (5%). Your paper should increase your
understanding of your selected topic and display this understanding to someone who is new to, or
unfamiliar with, yoga. The evaluation criteria are included to help guide your paper.
You should select a topic as soon as possible. Some sample topics are provided below. In order to
discuss your topic, please feel free to email me.
You may wish to select a topic on any aspect of Raja, Hatha, Bhakti, Karma, Jnana, or the history and
philosophy of yoga.
Sample Topics:
• A particular Era of Yoga
• Section(s) of the Eight limbs of Yoga
• The Kosha model (three bodies)
• Yoga and Religion (Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity)
• The different paths of yoga
• The route and history of a modern form of yoga
• Chakras and Bandhas (energy system)
• The science of breathing (Pranayama)
Format: The term paper should be a maximum of 5 pages (double-spaced) excluding the title and
reference page. Use 12pt Times New Roman or Calibri font and APA formatting for references. (You
must use at least five academic references such as library books and journal/study articles). Include a
title page.
