Yin/Yang Conepts in Taoism

Ying/Yang is a conceptual symbol of Taoism that has black and white colourshatare used in Taoism. It functions to represent the oneness in the philosophy and religion of Taoism. The symbol is made in such a way that it represents the duality of nature. It is neither entirely black, nor entirely white. The equal proportions of the color of the symbol are used to represent the balanced nature of the duality of phenomena, in that the opposite of a dual-like of a phenomenon is needed in equal measure. The symbol is also made in a way that it represents a rotation of the phenomena it represents depicting how the opposites of the dual elements of nature should achieve a balance for the purpose of achieving harmony.

In the Tao TeChing, the of the Ying and Yang is represented and emphasized in many chapters, including chapters seven, thirty nine and forty-one. Both chapters seven and thirty nine bring about the earth and the heavens, and also portrays the concepts of the day and night. In connection to the central principle in the concept of the Ying/Yang, these chapters attempt to explain the balancing nature of the opposite elements of the duality of nature. For example, the day is needed as much as the night is needed. The reality of Chinese philosophy is thus represented in the true nature of the Ying/Yang symbol, in that life and nature are abased on contrasting, important symbols of nature.
