writing a peom
Project instructions:
One of Whitman?s famous poems, ?Song of Myself,? celebrates himself for who he is. He uses many poetic devices in his poem including cataloging, alliteration, parallel structure, metaphor, and imagery. For this assignment, you will write a poem in CELEBRATION OF YOURSELF. You are unique ? so here is a chance to celebrate who you are with this creative writing. Follow the criteria listed below:
? Incorporate at least four or more of the above listed poetic devices into your poem.
? Write a free verse (no rhyme) poem of 15-20 lines and 120 to 140 words. Include a word and line count at the end of the poem! (required)
? Underline the examples of the poetic devices you use in the final copy.
? Identify what the devices are by creating a ?KEY? at the bottom on the page this must be included to be graded. An example of a ?key? might be to just place the number 1 next to the line where you use your first poetic device ? then, on the key simply write number 1 = metaphor or whatever it is and continue numbering the various elements. However you create the key, just make sure the person grading the poem will understand it.
? First, write a draft.
? Revise and edit your draft.
? Write the final copy and create the ?key.? Do not forget the word and line count.
? Submit only the final copy of this writing assignment.
NOTE: Do not worry if your poem is not perfect; we are not professionals. Do your very BEST. Remember to celebrate who you are and all of your special qualities!
