please find the attached document with the details in the order.

I want to choose the first option which is to talk about an artifact. and argue about the points from a muslim
perspective or culture.

my thesis should be: ?Satire has been used for centuries to correct the vices of human nature through the use of
europan and arab artifacts? BUT you can come up with a new one if you want.

I want to talk about artifacts that show satire, include talking about Swift: A modest proposal. and i want to
compare it to satire used in the middle east but i could only find Aljahiz: The book of misers

1. describe the culture behind those artifacts

2. which angle does it interest me: you can pick

3. pick one of the arguments from options a , b, c or d.
World Cultures Research Essay Assignment
Contemplating Culture: Exploring the Cultural Resonance of an Artifact
Culture: 1. Art, music, literature, and related intellectual activities considered collectively 2. Enlightenment and
sophistication acquired through education and exposure to the arts 3. The beliefs, customs, practices, and social
behavior of a particular nation or people 4. A group of people whose beliefs and practices identify the particular
place, class, or time to which they belong 5. A particular set of attitudes that characterizes a group of people
Artifact: 1. An object made by a human being, e.g. a tool or ornament, especially one that has archeological or
cultural interest.
Choose ONE of the following two questions:
1. Extension of Panel Presentation Assignment: For this assignment (you may use the artifact selected for your
presentation or choose another) select an artifact and examine it both in relation to its cultural context (this is
where the research comes in) as well as in relation to the cultural context in which you grew up (here you can do
research or base it on your own experience). The artifact can be a historical document, scientific discovery, work
(or genre) of art, philosophy, theology, music, literature, dance, or architecture mentioned in our textbook. Your
essay should focus on the artifact from a particular angle which interests you: political, social, philosophical,
theological, historical, artistic, literary, or psychological. After choosing a focus and, after considering both
the rich definition of culture defined above, and one or more peer reviewed sources (using the AUD library or its
data bases or museum, or educational websites), your essay should argue (thesis statement should be an elaboration
of) ONE of the following: The cultural attitudes, ideas or values represented in my chosen historical artifact:

a. Have had an important influence on my own culture in some way (Be sure argue whether this influence is
mainly positive or negative in your opinion)
b. Are antithetical to my culture in important ways and therefore has an alien quality to it from my perspective
(Be sure to also argue whether or not you think the attitudes and ideas represented by this artifact would be
beneficial or detrimental to your culture.)
OR
c. Are, though seemingly antithetical to those of my culure, have some surprising similarities or parallels.
(Argue as well why you think these unlikely parallels exist)
d. Have important ramifications or influence on contemporary popular culture (Argue also why you feel the  influence of this artifact remains relevant or powerful today.)

2. Comparison/Contrast Assignment: Write an essay comparing and contrasting two works of art that are not only  of the same genre (portraiture, still-life, the nude, landscape etc.) but that are also about or have the same theme  or subject (for example, fruit, flowers, a biblical story, a lovers’ meeting, prostitutes, nudes, soldiers, etc.) .
These two works can be from the same or different historical periods. With regard to the two works, incorporate the  following considerations into you argument: What similarities do the two works share, and can they be accounted for  historically? Secondly, what are some important differences between the two works and can they be accounted for  historically, or do they differ mainly because of each individual artist’s approach to or interpretation of the  subject? What does each artist emphasize about the subject or theme as the result of his or her approach or
interpretation? Does one of the artists have a more successful rendering of the theme or subject? Why or why not?  (consider or answer these questions, not as questions which must be answered in your paper as part of a list, but  rather in your brainstorming (prewriting) process. In other words consider or answer them as a means of coming up  with a working thesis statement.)
