What makes one person respond to a fearful situation negatively and what makes them respond positively?
Take the recent problems with cruise lines. Many people heard about the cruise line problems and canceled trips, chose never to go on a cruise again, or decided cruising wasnt for them. And yet, others had the same experience with a much different result. Its these differences that researchers are trying to understand.
One theory is the idea of protective factors. We all have a variety of protective factors from our culture, upbringing, personal characteristics that helps us to be resilient in the face of crisis. Researchers are looking into what these protective factors are and then looking to see how they can be increased throughout our culture.
