THE RESEARCH –WRITTEN ANALYSIS It involves reading “What Happened to the American Social Compact” (Robert Reich) in the Massey text (pages 210-217). They will offer a short summary (1/2 page) of the Reich article. Then the student will find 2 additional sources minimum discussing the topic of why the gap between the rich and the poor is growing. In the conclusion, one should compare the articles/texts. They may agree with Reich or not. It should be noted here that there are issues in each that intellectuals may disagree upon. Do not be afraid to delve deeply into academic disagreement if you so choose! In a sense it is the point of this paper to show just that. Simply, that not all intellectuals agree with each other and that there may be multiple arguments that have validity. The writing itself should cover 3 “full” pages following the instructions in the parameters etc. section (see below). DO NOT USE “I” etc. Examples: Smith discusses…., The text examines… etc.
