What are the main terms, e.g., Reliability, Security, Accessibility, Accuracy, Flexibility, Interoperability, Usability, Scalability, Maintainability,

  • Business-User-System (B-U-S) alignment contains three elements: Business strategy, User/usability issues, Systems and technologies. Business strategy itself encompasses a wide range of activities, including an industry analysis, SWOT analysis, etc. User/usability issues include collaborative involvement in analysis and design, increasing buy-in during implementation, etc. Systems and technology issues include implementation tactics (e.g., pilot testing), vendor selection, etc. The 750-word maximum covers parts A and B together.
    a. Give an example of poor B-U-S alignment from our cases/readings. Be specific about which of the three elements was poor, and then how that impacted the other two elements.
    1. What could have been done to prevent misalignment from happening in the first place?
    2. What was done and what could have been done to correct the negative impacts that did occur?
    b. Give an example of good B-U-S alignment from our cases/readings. Be specific about which of the three elements was strong, and how that impacted the other two elements.
    2. The cases we have encountered include recurring elements. For each of the following five elements, compare and contrast the cases we have discussed (A Blogger in their Midst, Netflix, Zara, TJX, iPremier, CareGroup), one case illustrating the element in a positive way, the other case illustrating the element in a negative way. Use each of the six cases at least once.
    a) Strategic Decision Making (good vs. poor)
    b) IT Project Analysis or Design (good vs. poor)
    c) IT Project Implementation (good vs. poor)
    d) Assumptions / Reasoning (sound vs. erroneous)
    e) Cost/Benefit/Risk analysis (complete vs. incomplete)
    3. Some of our technology presentations examined technologies which many companies should consider adopting. Consider these again:
    IT and Green Tech
    Enterprise Infrastructure and Applications
    Biometrics
    Radio Frequency ID
Choose one (1) of them and assume you are a consultant to a large company which has chosen to adopt it. First, name the large company. Then answer the following questions:
    a. Why are you recommending it? For what purposes could it be useful?
    b. What are the Business, User and Systems issues for management to focus on?
    c. What are the main terms, e.g., Reliability, Security, Accessibility, Accuracy, Flexibility, Interoperability, Usability, Scalability, Maintainability, etc.? Describe each briefly as well as any tradeoffs among them.
    d. How are you recommending that they deploy it to minimize risks and costs while maximizing benefits?
    e. What indirect benefits could the company hope to achieve by deploying it intelligently?
