Virtual Communities/Social Media

Virtual Communities/Social Media

Virtual Communities/Social Media
Project description
In this essay, you will introduce and explain one of the readings we have discussed in this class, using a song from popular music €” deally, one that you or one of your classmates has added to the collective Spotify playlist (http://is.gd/s167spotify) although this is not required if you cannot get onto Spotify for whatever reason. The song should in some way be about social media and/or virtual communities (broadly defined) or depict an issue that arises in them. This must not be a song that was mentioned in the syllabus.

Your essay should begin by briefly introducing the reading (not the song), and broadly explaining what the case, concept, argument, or theory is. Then, introduce the song and discuss how it illustrates what you are explaining from the reading, quoting from both the lyrics and the reading as appropriate. Your essay should be written so that someone who has not taken the course could get a good understanding of a case, concept, argument or theory discussed in the reading you choose.

The essay should be the same format as the written assignments: 450-550 words. For context, include the lyrics of the entire song below your essay, but do not include this in the word limit.

You can look up those and pick topics for selected songs.
