Order Description

1) Choose Susan Jacoby reading and summarize its main claims. Practice writing a THOROUGH summary, and not a single sentence that glosses over the complexity of the

essay’s thesis.

2) Identify the conversation(s) in education in which the author is participating, and how. What rhetorical strategies do they use?

3) Freewrite about your own stake in that conversation. What perspective could you offer that conversation based on your background and experiences as a student?

4) Write 1-3 new questions you have that could lead you to conduct further research.
