Order Description

For the first writing assignment, select a social issues film that deals with a character experiencing troubles in her/his private life that are impacted by issues in

the social world. The purpose of this assignment is for you to exercise your sociological mind and imagination while making a connection between personal/private

problems and the social world influencing individual opportunity and life experience.

You may include any or all of the following:

Is the character in the film aware of the social conditions that may be impacting her/his life?
How does this character perceive her/his situation? (Self-blame, blaming others, is conscious of the role of social forces, etc.)
How do people in the character’s primary and secondary social groups perceive or explain her/his situation?
If you were to investigate the social forces and conditions involved in the character’s dilemma, what information would you look for?
What social forces are recognized in the film? What might be some contributing social forces not revealed in the film?
