Order Description

(1) Select a movie, a novel or a play that provides a rich moral context for analysis.
(2) Focus on two characters and focus about one moral choice each one of them makes. Make sure that you select two cases of moral choice, where the characters freely and deliberately choose, among two or more alternatives, to act in a certain way that resolves their ethical dilemmas. (Two characters, two moral choices—total of 2 cases; actions without choice and deliberation, such as acting out of rage, incoherence, under serious threat, etc. DO NOT QUALIFY)
(3) Write the following:
(a) A short summary of the plot. (No more than one paragraph!) – 10 points
(b) Present the free and deliberate moral choice each one of the character make? (Total of 2 moral choices) – 18 points
(c) How do they justify these choices? –18 points
(d) What moral theory or principle are they appealing to? (From the seven absolutist theories we have studied: Divine Command, Natural Law, Rational Egoism, Utilitarianism, Kant’s Ethics, Virtue Ethics, and the Ethics of Care) Show exactly how the character’s justification conforms to the absolutist theory you selected. – 18 points
(e) How would two other of the seven absolutist theories evaluate each of these choices? – 18 points
(f) How would you evaluate their choices? What is your moral reasoning in reaching this conclusion? Explain and give examples from your own life. – 18 points
