Discussion Topic – Value of Accreditation Activities

In this week’s reading you are learning about voluntary accreditation activities such as the Joint Commission and NCQA (perhaps some of you have had the joy of being a part of these activities in the real world). I would like for you to discuss some of the pros and cons of voluntary accreditation activities such as the Joint Commission. Do they provide value for the organization and consumer or are they just another layer of bureaucratic red tape that the health care industry is required to deal with?
