concrete and to use AutoCAD to detail a reinforced
concrete retaining wall structure.
At the end of this assignment a student should:

Understand the principles involved in detailing rei
nforced concrete; and

Have experience of producing a AutoCAD drawing of a
retaining wall structure

Details:
All  civil  engineering  students  need  to  have  an  unde
rstanding  of  how  reinforced  concrete  is
detailed and the process of producing a reinforced
concrete drawing.
The following is to be undertaken:
1.      Use the drawing frame that you produced in Exer
cise No 2. Ensure that the drawing title
box is filled out.
2.     Using the information within the instruction sli
des on VITAL, produce an AutoCAD drawing
that contains sufficient information to build the r
etaining wall. This drawing should include
the following components:
a)
A cross section showing the layout of the wall, inc
luding all dimensions, levels,
inserts and adjacent features (drainage and ground
levels) and intended position of
reinforcing bars.
b)
A front elevation of the retaining wall which conta
ins the main call-ups for the
reinforcing bars.
c)
An enlarged detail of the coping beam.
d)
A set of notes to complete the information needed t
o build the retaining wall.
3.     A bar bending schedule which relates to the draw
ing which could be passed to a contractor
for ordering of the reinforcing steel.
