From “The Waste Land” to “Green Card,” there is a distinct change in voice and identity of poets. However, there are common bonds in the kinds of themes being discussed, if not the themes themselves. These are often what really differentiate modern and contemporary poetry from the work of poets past.  What larger thematic differences do you see in contemporary poetry? How is the identity of the poet different in modern and contemporary work?
