The Rookie

A rookie should behave exceptionally well especially the first time they are on parole. This is going to be the standard that the rest of the officers will set for him. A rookie should handle himself appropriately and gain favour from the other police officers without breaking the ethical codes (Kasper).

Some restaurant owners offer free food to police officers as a way of bribery. This is subtle way of gaining favours from the police officers. As a rookie on first time patrol, I would not accept free food even if my partner accepted. I would pay for anything that I ordered. In some states, it is illegal for shop owners to give free stuff to the police officer.

It would not matter whether it was just a coffee store or a restaurant. I would insist on paying even if the owner did not require me to pay. This indirectly communicates to them that they will not be receiving any favours from me if ever they committed a mistake.
