Newspaper Project: This paper will discuss the role of slavery in the Civil War by conducting a review of newspapers during the period of conflict, from 1861 to 1865.  Any arguments or detected biases should be clearly noted in your assessment, and discussed in detail. Although New York City is located in the North, for example, the city was divided in its loyalties regarding the war, so you may find a diversity of opinions. In that regard, the city’s 1863 Draft Riots is a particularly noteworthy event, especially since it was the same year of the Emancipation Proclamation. The paper should be three or four pages in length and in-text citations are permitted.
