THE CRITICAL ESSAY: SOME ADVICE
The essay should reflect critically on the methods and data used in one of the journal articles provided on Study Space. The following advice should be taken into consideration when writing the essay:
When selecting which journal article you will discuss, make sure you are clear about what that article sets out to do;
Identify the methods, sources, data or cases used;
Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the methods, sources, data or cases used;
Evaluate the extent to which the methods, sources, data or cases used are appropriate for the purpose of the article;
Make sure that your critical essay complies with general requirements about structure and clarity and that it makes use of relevant research skills and methods literature (a minimum of six research methods sources must be used!)
