A site is located on a tributary of the River Mersey and consists of embankments along the banks of the tributary. Significant flood risk exists to a village situated close to the river banks and as such your firm has been commissioned to design the flood defence system. The tributary banks (on which the embankment sits) are in a poor state of repair and as such some movement of the embankment has occurred. The two key aims that must be achieved are:
(1) Secure the stability of the embankment.
(2) Improve the integrity of the flood defences (new defences have been deemed necessary in this case).
