A critique (c. 1200-1500 words) of an existing translation, into or from English, according to individual student preference. (If in double, consult with your lecture about the suitability of the ST.) If more than one translation is available, the versions may be compared.

learning outcomes:

On successful completion ofthis course, students will have

1- enhanced their ability to evaluate texts

which have been translated;

2. gained heightened appreciation ofthe complex linguistic and cultural problems which form part ofthe

process;

3. developed important analytical skills and the ability to manipulate complex and nuanced textual material underthe guidance of
staff members who are themselves highly skilled and experienced in translation from a range oflanguages, and who are contributing to
most recent scholarship in Translation Studies.
