speech for a public speaking class; Persuasive Speech
Problem Cause Solution
Description:
This is a 4-6 minute speech. You are required to present within the time limit. I will give a 30-sec. leeway. 30 seconds one minute over or under,
3 points will be deducted. Anything over or under one minute, 5 points will be deducted.
Main difference between informational speech and persuasive speech is that in order for the persuasive speech to be effective, you must include
quality research and effective arguments for and against your stand/opinion (in the form of quotes, verbal citations, statistics).
Source Requirement: You are to cite no fewer than 4 published sources (verbally in your speech and in your outline). These must be quality sources
(remember the criteria for quality of sources Ehow, Wikipedia, About.com, Ask.com, etc¦ are not sufficient).
A Visual aid is required for this speech.
You must use notecards for speaking notes.
Assignment:
Choose a problem, whether it’s local, national or global and address the problem. It can be controversial. It cannot be one of the prohibited topics.
You will include causes of the problem and what may happen if the problem is not addressed. Provide a feasible solution to the problem. If a solution
already exists, explain why this current solution is not effective, then provide a plan as to how you would implement the new solution. If others
have implemented a solution similar to yours you can use these as examples to show how this potential solution has worked for others. Make sure you
provide enough evidence to establish that both a problem and a solution exist. If you’re asking your audience to take action to participate in the
solution, you must give specific things they can/should do.
