social policy and sociology

social policy and sociology
Order Description
starting with the concept “social location” and applying this to your own social location, reflect on your life personal experiences where you have felt the impact of social divisions.

guidelines:-

you must begin your reflection with how you would categorise your “social location” and define what we mean by this term and how this is useful for starting an assessment on social work in the context of anti discriminatory practice.

critically analyse how the social location of your social identity can be understood within a range of sociological theories (interactionism, functionalism etc).

consider and analyse using sociological theories the multiple oppression or discrimination you may or could face as a
result of your social location (social identity).

choose personal experiences to illuminate and support your theories of your social location.

conclude with how this reflection and analysis will help you in the future in the context of anti discrimination and anti oppressive practice.

back any points, theories raised with evidence.

Talk in the first and third person

Have some sense of narrative of self and identity. how does your reflective analysis of for social location affect your future i.e. as a parent as a social worker

This is my situation that needs to be reflected on:-

When I was 11 I was in secondary school and I would say that over the next 18 months myself and my friends would be quite disruptive in class, due to lack of discipline from the teachers. The school I was in did not have a very good reputation and the discipline was second to none.

I was a follower so if my friends were misbehaving then so was I and looking back I would put this down to peer pressure.

My mother then decided to move me to another secondary school half way through the second year. I was not happy with this, as I would be leaving all my friends. The new school was a lot stricter and was lot more structured and had a much better reputation. Also I was not happy with going there, as there was rivalry between the town I lived in and the town of the school that I was going to. For nearly a year I was bullied as I was from the other town and it was a horrible experience, I made a few friends but not many as they did not want to get bullied either.

In the end I stood upto the bullies and my time in school was much more enjoyable and I made more friends and enjoyed my time. It made me a more confident individual.
Need to look at themes such as social division, isolation, social economic

Why I was disruptive – down to peer pressure and feeling the need to fit in with my friends.

Labeled as being disruptive in my first school

Self-fulfilling prophecy

Has taught me never to judge a book by its cover and this will help me in my future career as a social worker, never to be judgmental and that everyone should have the same opportunities as you regardless of where they come from.
look at journals and back up the research with evidence
