shared values/beliefs
Select a memorial, public space (may be a building or outdoor space), or image of a natural landscape* to research and explore the shared values/beliefs it reflects. (Can NOT be any that are discussed in the readings).
(*The image must be one available to be seen or purchased by the public, i.e. found in a public gallery, museum, book, or store.)
POST an image and the following information on the designated Course Collections Blog (be sure to include your name as the title)summary points
a. Basic information about the work: name, size and location; when made; name of maker(s) (artist, architect, designer, patron); media (the materials it is made of).
b. Design and subject matter: Provide a brief description noting at least 3 key features of the worki.e. type of design, symbols, subject matter (i.e. if it is a memorial of a particular person or event; or image of a particular place).
c. Functions/purposes: Why was the place/image created? How and by whom is it used? Has its use changed over time? (if so, how)
d. Stories & histories: Tell us something about its history (i.e. Has it been the subject of controversy or debate? Associated with any key events? How/does it fit into the career of the maker(s)? How/does it fit into the history of it’s location?
d. Significance, meanings and values: Is the item considered significant in some way? (How, why, by whom?) What shared values, beliefs, symbolic meanings and attitudes do you think are reflected by the place?
