This assignment incorporates the knowledge, research, self-assessment, and reflection skills you have acquired to identify and evaluate your own personal leadership style. You will draw on your knowledge, experience, readings, and material from this course and your previous courses in the MPA program (such as MPA5002). You will reflect on who you are as a leader, where you want to go, and how you might be able to get there.
The assignment is divided into three parts. Part I is an examination and analysis of leadership theory and what you feel is appropriate for public administration leaders in our current economic environment. Part II is a discussion of what you have learned about yourself in terms of management style, leadership theories used (and not used), leadership behaviors and practices and whether you feel your current leadership method or style is useful in your current professional situation. Part III concerns personal leadership goal identification and strategies for attainment in your journey as a current or future public administration leader.
For this assignment:
Part I: Leadership Theory Examination:
Examine current leadership theory and discuss whether it is appropriate for use in today’s economic environment. Your examination should include at least two different kinds of leadership including the theoretical basis and examples of each as seen in the public sector.
Part II: Personal Leadership Style Evaluation:
What have you learned about yourself in regards to your management and leadership style and behaviors? Discuss your preferred management and leadership styles, and evaluate whether you feel your current approach is useful in your current professional situation. If you are not working in a leadership position, or you wish to do a future application exercise, you may apply this to a potential leadership position where you would like to see yourself in the future.
Part III: Leadership Goals and Plan:
What do you want to do in the future? Where do you see yourself going, and how do you plan on getting there? Identify at least one personal leadership goal and discuss where you feel you are in a career timeline. Are you making progress? What steps do you feel you need to take in order to attain this goal? Using the SWOT analysis you did for u07d2, identify and discuss at least one obstacle and one opportunity toward your attainment of this goal. Strategize how you can overcome this obstacle and how you can maximize the opportunity. This may involve the use of an action plan (see template) or another form of planning that you feel comfortable with…………….
