In this extended research piece you can select a case study and locate
that within a ‘security framework’ making particular reference to
either one or more of the following:

• The Securitisation Debate
• Responsibility to Protect (R2P)
• Humanitarian Intervention
• Human Security

Example: The plight of refugees in ‘Darfur’ might be the case study
and R2P (and/or Humanitarian Intervention) might be chosen as the
framework to illuminate and analyse the case study. In a similar way
you might chose to conduct research on an environmental issue and
examine that within the context of the Securitisation Debate.

It is a unit requirement that a draft a one-page dot point outline of
the proposed research paper is discussed and agreed with your tutor.
This will be a negotiated process and will need to be signed-off by
the end of day. 27 /5 It is highly recommended that preliminary
research and thinking about this assignment begin as soon as possible.
Students are advised to read widely on the topic and carefully
consider the framework they intend to use.

The grade for this assignment will be based on the amount of research
conducted and how well that research is integrated into an overall
argument that has substance and relevance. Be aware that this
assessment represents half of the available marks for this unit.
