ROLE OF EDUCATION IN SUCCESS

Education has been said to be the best weapon against ignorance. It provides an equal ground for men to gain knowledge and the urge to want to know more. The nature of human being is never learning enough because even the old generations still search for books to read, a clear indication that there is no end to education. We learn from everyday situations which educate us about life but also we need another kind of education that helps our brain to another world of history, science and mathematics. With the importance placed on education, every American agrees that everyone has a right to free education. This is coupled to the fact that once a person completes the free education, they will advance and continue with high school then college, something that will improve the nation to become a smarter nation. The paper is going to cover the role of education in success in today’s society as described by early scholars and today’s writers.

Education is important to personal and professional life of person. This depends on the level of success that one wants to achieve which makes level of education relative. All in all, education, no matter the sort, is paramount to future success. When one completes levels of education that are increasingly advanced shows that one has the drive and commitment to learn, apply information, formulas and theories to achieve certain goals and a variety of tasks. Education is important so that one can acquire the subject matter and knowledge that is required to get by everyday life, (Marge, 2011).

Acquiring English and language skills help one to communicate ideas more eloquently in any kind of setting, either as a teacher, businessperson, doctor or a student. Basic computational skills are also important in doing everyday chores like shopping, cooking and driving which does not require one to use a computer or calculator. More education has been associated with more money because the higher the levelof education one achieves, the more the amount of income one is likely to get. Nowadays, a person with a degree earns more that those who only have college or high school diplomas. Education is also important I determining success given that many employers are looking to hire people who are educated as more roles that did not require any education demand a certain level of education. Education achievements have been often used to narrow the field of applicants for a vacancy.

Through education one is able to learn how to learn. This is through learning how to gather knowledge and apply the knowledge where necessary. It is also a means of developing interpersonal skills through learning how to interact with different kind of people while at the same time improving ones communication skills. One is able to learn more on persuasion skills team work and also conflict resolution skills. Education teaches one how to meet deadlines and how to manage complex tasks effectively and efficiently. Broad reading and observation enable one to learn from experience of others. This is because one is able to know many theories, ideologies, formulas and experiments that have been done in history by physicists, philosophers and other experts. It is only through education, which trains the human mind to think and make right decisions, that a man becomes a rational animal.

According to Goel, (2007) a person who is not educated cannot read or write and is thus closed to all knowledge and wisdom gained from books or other means; he is shut from the outside world. It is through the level of literacy that a nation’s human resource is determined. This means that it is a must for people to acquire education if a nation aspires to achieve development and growth and be able to sustain it. This can be seen in the world today where rich and developed nations have high rates of literacy and high number of productive human resource. Many nations have also developed courses to educate their population on new business and technical demands that have been brought by the needs of the 21^st century. Take United States for example. It is the world’s largest economy and many vocational training programs are being offered by educational institutes to enhance mainstream education. Many colleges are also offering online courses so that the working class is also catered for. This is because challenges come as we progress through our lives and it is important to always keep our selves updated through gaining more knowledge and skills. This is the reason why people in working class go back to school to advance their knowledge and skills for promotions, achieving professional growth and also so as to gain entry into different avenues. For others like doctors and dentists, they are required to keep updating themselves on research and developments that is being done in the field of medicine. Knowing how important education is in personal and national success, the US Department of Education keeps improving students’ achievements through preparing them for global competitiveness.

In his essay, The achievement of Desire, Richard Rodriguez speaks of his great desire for education. From when he was young Rodriguez was taken to school by his parents to be taught by nuns because his mother believed they taught better. Unfortunately, his parents were not lucky enough to obtain the quality of education that Rodriguez was given a chance to experience but they made sure that their children would be educated in a proper formal system. His mother knew that education was the key to success as it ed up many doors in a person’s life as one was able to obtain a better job with good and quality education. His father encouraged him to be proud of his achievements in school through displaying his trophies and award certificates in his room, something that Rodriguez never did. Education creates the desire to always want to know more as witnessed by Rodriguez and it makes sure that one is not left behind by the occurrences in the world.

In conclusion, education plays a very important role in determining one’s success. It does not matter whether one has got education in reading and writing or through the school system. What is important is the skills and knowledge one attains from education. Through education the nation has acquired prominent doctors, scientists and business men who run or own multinational companies. It is important for a person who has the opportunity to obtain knowledge know that they are privileged to have an opportunity through which they can fight ignorance and attain success in future. As we witness in today’s world, education is continuous and there is always something new to learn for everybody, including the grand parents.
