rhetorical devices such as ethos, pathos, logos, kairos, analogizing/re-framing the issue
the persuasive essay is you attempting to argue a point of view. the main difference between the two, besides the number of types of sources required, is while the research paper showcases your ability to use evidence to support your argument, in the persuasive essay, you’re using rhetorical devices such as ethos, pathos, logos, kairos, analogizing/re-framing the issue, etc., to convince your reader of the stance you’ve taken on an issue. you can (and should) still use evidence, too, but it isn’t main thrust of the assignment. You’re trying to convince the reader why the issue youre writing about matters and why you’ve taken the position you have. it must include at least 4 outside sources; unlike the research paper, they do not have to be peer-reviewed sources.
