5 pages.
Choose one of your sources for your Final Paper to analyze closely. The article should be at least five pages and shouldn’t be longer than twenty. It should be either a scholarly journal article or an expert general audience source. The article must take a side on your issue, either for or against. Analyze the author’s thesis or side using rhetorical analysis. Please follow this outline:
Outline
Introduction: Give a general introduction about the topic of the article
Transition to a summary of the author’s claims. Introduce author, title, source
Summary: summarize the main thesis and the major points of the article. Be neutral, no I, we, you, us, our. Just focus on the article. NO play by plays
THESIS: identify what rhetorical appeals are being analyzed and why or why not the argument is effective.
Analysis: Write several paragraphs of analysis of the author’s position. Organize each paragraph after the following
Topic Sentence: Start with a strong topic sentence that identifies what appeal, or style, or word choice you will discuss and how it functions in the essay
Example: don’t just say the author said it, use a paraphrase or direct quote that shows what the author did.
Analysis: You aren’t done yet! You now need to analyze what this example means, is it effective and why or why not. Look for strengths and weaknesses
?You can’t talk about everything, so you need to choose what is most important that backs up your thesis about the author’s position
?
Conclusion: don’t any new doors. There should be no new evidence, no new quotes, no new ideas in your final paragraph. This should comment on the overall meaning of the paper.
