Religion Discussion
Make a note of the warning against black and white thinking in which one supports a belief at the exclusion of another when in fact the dichotomy is not necessary. For example, consider deists and evolutionists. Is it necessary to choose one side or the other? Is it possible to believe in a Creator who then left the world alone to evolve into the world we know today? Can we embrace evolution and creationism at the same time, for example? Can we support stem cell research and still support the Christian views of right to life? Can we call religious experiences acts of God when they have scientific explanations (like near-death experiences)?
That brings us to the debate between science and religion. Do science and religion really have to contradict each other? Can science and God exist in harmony? Can scientists also be believers?
