Apply the Harvard Business Review paper entitled What is a Global Manager? and the Appreciating
Diversity section on page 291 of What it takes to be a Global Leader from the Handouts section of D2L to
the following scenario. (I have attached this document)
You have just started a job working in San Jose for John Needshelp, the corporate manager in charge of
Europe for PG&E who has recently purchased small companies in Germany, Sweden, Italy, and France that build
product power components to supply power plants for government owned utilities. Each country uses 220 volts
as a standard but the components are incompatible due to long standing historical local requirements. John
has a strong hunch that they are probably more compatibilities than differences.
The corporate manager has asked you to propose how he should organize European operations to improve the
company’s productivity. Make sure you cover your 1) awareness of the issue as well as your recommendation
for sound business practices.
