Quality enhancement
The purpose of this assignment is to get you thinking about why people pursue a career in the public sector, and conversely why they might not choose to do so. Choose a public sector organization. Gather information on this organization and the types of positions for employment that they offer. Find out what is required of someone who might want a job in that organization. Where does this organization actively try to recruit employees? What do they look for in an employee? How could you become the type of employee they would want? Do you have the skills necessary to obtain a job at that organization? Is working there something you would enjoy?
If possible, visit the organization. Try to talk to someone in the organization, and if possible, ask them these questions:
1. What is your job?
2. What do you like about your job?
3. What motivated you to pursue a career in public administration?
4. What advice would you offer to others who might be interested in a public service career?
Then, write a two to three page paper describing what you learned. Did your opinion of the organization change after you did your research? Are you more, or less, committed now to pursuing a career in the public service? Why or why not?
