Project Initiation Document (PID)

Project Initiation Document (PID) is an agreement for any project and it involves the project board members and the project manager (Robert, 2006). The document should set out, and try to provide information regarding particular issues to a satisfactory level in order to aid control of the project.

To begin with, PID should outline the aims of the project. It should clarify what the project targets to achieve at the end of the stated period. These objectives should be crystal clear to both the project manager and the project board.

Second, it should specify the importance of achieving the set objectives. The answers to this question should specify the long term advantages of achieving the laid down objects that include the rewards accrued to the same (Victor, 2003).

PID should also identify the people involved in organizing the whole process and their responsibilities. The people involved in managing the project and their responsibilities should be clear in order to avoid any confusions on the way.

Finally, it should also state the means and time that the project is scheduled to take place. This puts clear the resources to be used in realizing the project’s objectives and the exact time to be allowed.

In conclusion, it is unfathomable that any person can keep track of all the details in his memory (Scott, 1998). Re-visiting the questions and answers tackled in this document will enable the project board and the project manager to establish the direction being taken in achieving their required standards. Therefore; it is necessary for the project team to revisit the questions that were answered in the business case when developing the project initiative document.
