Ohm’ s Law Equipment Pre
--
Lab
Next lab period your groups will be asked to construct
circuits using a simple
bread
board
.
Thus,
you will
need to transla
te circuit diagrams into physical
circuits.
Working on these techniques doesn’t specifically require the
equipment in front of
you. One can make sketches and draw lines as wires to help visualize how to make
attachments to complete a circuit and how to attach
the multimeter to measure the
equivalent capacitances or resistances.
Complete the questions below
by drawing
components and
wires such that the
circuit board and equipment represents the circuit diagram
drawn. Make sure to
look at the top and bottom images of the circuit board in the laboratory write up
for
this week
so you have a good idea how the elements are con
nected to the board and
how to interpret the sketches of the board below.
Example:
In the images
below are the circuit diagram and the wiring you conducted
in the lab last meeting to measure the current and voltage of the circuit with one
resistor.
Pleas
e replicate this
type of
diagram when requested in the questions
below.

2
Note:
When crossing two wires that are not connec
ted, please draw as shown
below. Notice how wire #2 is drawn with an arch when crossing the wire #1
to show that the two wires are
not connected. Please use this standard when
making your sketches.
1.
Looking at the circuit diagram below, translate the circuit onto the
circuit board sketch. Remember that each circle represents a banana
jack and a wire drawn between the banana jack a
nd the circuit
element connector makes these two connectors and the wire at the
same point in space conceptually.

2.
Looking at the circuit diagram below, translate the circuit onto the
circuit board sketch
and make sure to include the Cmeter
.
3.
L
ooking at the circuit diagram below, translate that circuit onto the
circuit board sketch and make sure to include the Rmeter
.
4
4.
Look at the circuit below
.
C
ompare the predicted measured value
of
the equivalent resistance
to the
value predicted in
circuit
#3. Will the
Rmeter register the sam
e resistance? Why or why not?
Provide the
predicted values in terms of
the variables of R1, R2, and R3 for each
circuit.
