Term Paper – Spring 2015
The course term paper is due on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 2359 hours (11:59pm). The term paper will be submitted online through the “Turn-It-In” area of the Assignment area of Blackboard. The term papers shall be written in Microsoft Word or similar word processor and submitted in the same format. No hard copy of the paper is required.
Term paper requirements:
– 5 to 8 pages in length (not including the reference page)
– Double spaced with 1” margins
– At least five references, not including/in addition to the text book
– Limit of 2 (two) websites allowed as references
o Wikipedia cannot be used as a reference due to reliability issues
– APA format – no footnotes – with reference page

– Abstract and cover page are not needed and are not included in the page count
– Name the file as “yournameCRJA3700” (example: michellerippyCRJA3700) in Word format
Choose a topic related to current topics about ethics in the justice system. State the ethical problem clearly in a detailed format and your stance on the topic. Topics can include, but are in no way limited to:
– Capital punishment
– Plea bargaining and prosecutorial discretion
– Police discretion/values
– Criminal sentencing and punishment
– Insanity defense
– Innocence project
The paper should include how an ethical decision is made and how the decision can be deemed ethical (deontological/teleological). Support your stance by citing ethical theories from the text and why the topic is an ethical dilemma. Also include the opposition’s theories with supporting articles. Be sure to incorporate your original ideas for solutions to the ethical
