Measurement Tool Introduction Assignment

•    Each student will be assigned a selected measurement tool, and will be the class ‘resident expert’ about the tool. The student will borrow the tool from the assessment library, practice administering the tool, research use of the tool in current practice, analyze properties of the tool, and prepare a demonstration and class discussion that will introduce the measurement tool to classmates on an assigned date. The measurement tool the student introduces is to be different than the tools the student uses for the other class assignments.

•    The student is to analyze the properties of the selected measurement tool using all available resources and literature for references. The student is to submit a two-page handout (using the Handout Template as a guide) on Bb Discussion Board at least 24 hours before the presentation. The handout is to be a useful resource for classmates, outlining information about the tool and its use. Information on the handout should be complete, clear, and concise, using the student’s own words. All of the information for the analysis is to be the student’s own work. Information copied or paraphrased from another source is to be cited, using APA format.

•    The student is to prepare an instructional and interactive 30 minute session to familiarize peers with using the measurement tool and to facilitate a discussion about use of the tool in the current health care environment.  The practice session should be designed to inform classmates about the use of the tool with a variety of clients, and for them to become familiar with administration and scoring of all parts of the tool.  The student may use notes, but not a formal Power Point presentation. The student is expected to demonstrate knowledge about the analysis of the measurement tool, and apply the knowledge to everyday experiences.

•    The student is to role play a 10-minute description of the selected measurement tool, modeling an introduction of the purpose of the tool for a client, or an explanation of results of an evaluation using the tool to a client, caregiver, and/or team member. The student is expected to demonstrate knowledge about the analysis of the measurement tool, apply the knowledge to everyday experiences, and articulate a specific application of the relationship of the measurement tool to occupational performance.

•    As part of the summary and analysis of the measurement tool, the student is to submit a comprehensive reference list (10-12) of articles that either critique or discuss the use of the measurement tool. If articles specifically related to the measurement tool are not available, students are to document the sources they searched and the result of those searches, and include a list of articles describing measurement of the identified characteristic measured by the tool.
