Pearl 2 and “Traps Pearl”

“Traps” Pearl
This Pearl will focus on the areas where you might struggle as a helper, or in your
professional career. Self-awareness and honesty are encouraged for this Pearl.
Part 1: Remen writes about some “traps” we can fall into as helpers. Refamiliarize
yourself with that portion of the book (pages 73-102) to get a sense of the traps I am
referring to in this assignment.
A) Identify two “traps” you struggle with as a helper or you think you might struggle with
in your future work (you are not limited to just the traps discussed in the book).
B) Then explain how you are or how you could address these traps so that you might be a
more effective helper (Remen offers some ideas, as does Gladwell in “Blink”-bring in
ideas from BOTH texts, and you can also use info. from lecture). Cite appropriately.
Part 2:
A) Identify two personal strengths you bring to your current or future work as a helper.
B) How do either of these strengths relate to addressing your traps? If they do not relate,
what is an additional strength you have that will help you address your traps?
