1 After reading the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the selection on Thomas Jefferson, and reviewing the accompanying ppt, discuss whether the documents have either hindered and or aided in the perpetuation of racial politics in Americas. Students must use explicit examples (meaning direct quotes) from either document to explain. You must use at least 2 specific examples and explain each example from either founding document to garner credit. It is suggested that students refer to the BB reading on Thomas Jefferson for insight.

2 Identify and explain at least 3 specific instances of ironic, discriminatory and or possessive individualistic (from Smedley’s discussion on “possessive individualism”) language within BOTH documents. You MUST identify at least one example from each document. The third example can come from either the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. Be sure to explicitly identify the passage and the document you took it from as well as explain each passage.
