My Leadership Philosophy

Leadership is a very vital element in any organizational setting, especially in the current world. In the current business setting, many people are enlightened. Handling enlightened people is a challenge. It takes one to have both leadership and management skills in order to succeed. Although one needs to identify with the employees, the leader also needs to be in a position of command, so that they are not rendered irrelevant in the organization. In retrospect, there are various kinds of leaders, and it is important for one to reflect upon the kind of leadership they are offering to their subjects. There is the Laissez-Faire type, the aristocratic type, democratic, participative (Democratic), transactional and transformational (Northouse 122).

After considering all the leadership types, I would like to be a participative leader. From the literature, a participative leader applies democratic principles and also employs McGregor’s theory Y leadership. Such principles enable the democratic leader to identify with their subjects (Certo and Certo 301) participative leadership, the leader invites the employees to participate in decision-making. The employees, as a result, own the decision that has been made. Such a process enhances the process of realization of organizational goals. Similarly, the participative process of democratic leadership boosts staff morale leading to desirable organizational outcomes. In sum, I would like to see my employees happy as we achieve organizational outcomes.
