Movie review: Almost Famous

The film by name, ‘Almost Famous’, was first released on 15th September 2000. It is directed by Crowe Cameron, and it runs for 23 minutes. The movie producers are Cameron Crowe and Ian Bryce. It is written by the producer Crowe Cameron. It is a comedy with satire distributed by DreamWorks Pictures and the main audiences are teenagers and adults.

The film is an autobiographical kind of a movie that describes the teenage journalism days of the director Crowe Cameron. He was at the time working with Rolling stone magazine. The protagonist of the film is the 15-year old William Miller, who learns important lessons after travelling with the company of a fictional rock band. The protagonist in the film is living with a single mother. William goes to a profitable job with the Rolling stone magazine, in an act of touring with a band called Stillwater. Life lessons are learnt, although William maintains the moral sense of values he was taught by his mother. He also made close contact with a young female groupie and the main guitarist.

The writer embraces a style of classic satire like the one employed in ‘Forest Gump’. The situation in the movie is turned upside down and the movie opens with drama in the family that brings repercussions when the roll band is struggling to gain fame. The mother of William Miller, a little boy, is found to be strict intellectual and teacher. William, however, is given the roll and rock records by her sister when she turns 18. William discovers the value of friendships four years later when he is writing reviews for a local newspaper print operating in the San Diego. The theme of loss of identity due to fame is brought out here. The climax of the movie satire comes in the excesses of the band when the revelations that seen to break the band apart comes about.

Generally, the movie ‘Almost Famous’ is very entertaining. The piece is also a very insightful comedy because of its objectionable elements. It is recommendable for learning life lessons.
