Metadata Report
Project instructions:
The assignment file this week is a jpeg image and it’s full of metadata. You need to download the picture from the assignment file directory, extract the metadata and provide accurate and verifiable information for the following 12 items (within a report or presentation):
1. Identify the date and time the picture was taken.
2. Identify the device used to take the picture.
3. Did the flash go off when the picture was taken?
4. What building was the picture taken in?
5. What city was the picture taken in? Think latitude and longitude, not simply the location of the building.
6. The event was a hockey game. What two teams played?
7. Which team won?
8. Was it a regular season or playoff game?
9. If a regular playoff game, which team won the playoff series?
10. What was the weather on that particular day in that location?
11. Is there any other metadata of interest?
12. While you are free to use any tool(s) you want, your report must include (at the end) a snapshot of FTK Imager displaying metadata from the jpeg file being examined.
For each of these answers, you are expected to provide an explanation as to how you arrived at the answer, including what tools and/or procedures were used. You can use whatever tools work best for you but as stated above, you must use FTK Imager for item 12. Google and Jeffrey’s EXIF Viewer (available at http://regex.info/exif.cgi ) will be very helpful for this assignment. Tip: For Jeffrey’s EXIF Viewer, choose Local Image File and load the image from your computer system.
