Description
Identify a healthcare system near you and set up some time to speak with an administrator. For community health centers the administrator may be a CEO, COO or any member of the Executive Team. For private clinics, an administrator may be an office manager and for hospitals, an administrator may be a CEO, department manager, or any other administration official.
Discuss one of the following concepts with the administrator:
The managerial role of the supervisor
The importance of good decision making and communication in achieving coordination
How communication affects organizational performance
The value of projections and population changes in planning for the healthcare industry
The importance of organizational policies and procedures
How time management impacts patient care
After your discussion, write a report (no more than 4 pages) with reflections of your discussion. Be sure to include the following:
Who you spoke with, their title, a description of their role, and the organization they are an administrator over.
Background information on the concept you chose to discuss
An overview of the discussion, including which concept you discussed with them and the primary takeaways from your discussion.
How you can apply this to your management style as you prepare to enter the healthcare administration field.
