Should countries, including the United States, be pressured by interest groups to limit imports in order to keep the unemployment rate low?

Alexander Hamilton (1792) pressed for the infant industry practice for protectionism. Based on what you have read in the textbook, is the practice a sound idea? Explain your rationale.

If import restrictions keep out foreign-made goods, foreign companies may invest to produce in the restricted area. Do you support this strategy? Why or why not?
