Leonardo’s Last Supper

The Last Supper…a topic you should all be familiar with by now, is the topic for this week.
do not give me a biographical account of Leonardo’s life. Background about his life is not essential to this analysis.
Note that he is referred to in your text as Leonardo.
Do focus on the uniqueness of his composition. In order to do this you must be familiar with the biblical story, but please refrain from giving me a summary of the biblical story.
You do need to talk about Leonardo’s style and the symbolism that you see in this work and how it relates to the story.
You should look at this painting very carefully, but you should not only look at this painting of the Last Supper.
You should acquaint yourself with other painter’s compositions of the same scene. Does Leonardo’s table look the same, i.e. the same setting, food, etc.? Who are the figures around the table? Are they always placed in the same positions? Do they always wear the same expressions? The same clothing? Do they alway have the same postures? What about the background? These are a few of the details you should be examining.
In addition to your paper I expect to see a bibliography with 3 of the sources annotated. See other notes about these annotations. Please make sure that you are using quality academic reference materials. I do not want annotations of your text, or of encyclopedias. You should be reading journals and other scholarly material for this upper level art course. It’s sort of like the garbage in, garbage out saying. If you start with good material you are sure to have a better paper. Your sources should be used to support your observations or to clarify. I expect you to do your own looking and analyzing.
