1. On the back of the sheet, draw the basic structure of a sponge.  Label the: epithelial cells, porocytes, choanocytes,
spongocoel, amoebocytes, and osculum.  Draw arrows showing the directional movement of water (through pores and
osculum).  Observe the Scypha slide (129-130) €“ which of the above structures can you see?

2. Are sponges heterotrophs?  How do they obtain and process their food?

3.  Observe some of the dried sponges on display.  What structures make up the dense lattice that gives the sponge its shape?

difference between these structures?

7. Examine the slides and make a drawing of the Obelia medusae (25-26), which reproduce sexually.  What is the name of the
larvae produced by cnidarians?
