Nursing informatics Informatics is a discipline that deals with resources, apparatus, and methods needed to optimize the achievement, storage, recovery and application of information in health and medicine. Informatics tools involve computers, clinical guidelines, medical terminologies and also information and communication schemes. Nursing informatics involves combination of nursing skills with computer knowledge. Specialists in nursing informatics manage and pass nursing data and information to advance decision making by clients, patients, nurses and all health care providers (Slack & Slack, 2001).
