Independent film
Your post must include:
1)The topic of your final project
2) Which project you are doing – video, essay, or pedagogy (this should be an essay)
3) Give us a 60-100 word “pitch” for your final project – in addition to including the subject, etc., give us a hint of what we might see that includes some of the titles you might be looking at, as well as which critical frameworks you are using.
4) If someone could/should watch one film before reading/watching your final, what would it be and why (50 words or so).
Example: The early films of Richard Linklater are examined from the perspective of gender and regionality. How do Linklater’s films represent the “coming-of-age” process, and how do the films set in Texas differ from the non-Texas films in this regard. By looking at “Dazed and Confused,” “A Waking Life,” “The Bad News Bears,” and “School of Rock,” both his indie and studio films are reexamined to determine how Linklater represents male adolescence.
Essential viewing: “Boyhood.” Linklater’s decade-plus project synthesizes the key elements of masculine bonding, with a shifting Texas landscape mirroring the sometimes jarring and alienating patterns of a boy coming of age.
