In the essay Posing Problems and Picking Fights: Critical Pedagogy and the Corner Boys, Ralph Beliveau and Laura Bolf-Beliveau discuss the ways in which The Wire addresses problems of American public education. In season 4, we follow a handful of middle school students as they navigate their school lives. Do some research on the problems of American public education raised by the show (i.e. standardized testing, over-emphasis on discipline, under-funding), and write an essay in which you diagnose the problems and pose your own creative solutions.
