Product replacement is advertising a product or service in the midst of an ongoing program. It is commonly used in television shows and movies. One of my favorite local shows is in fond of advertising the coca cola drink as the show is ongoing, and this actually catches my attention. The characters in the show are broadcasted taking this drink and not only drinking it; they are brought looking thirsty free and satisfied just after they have taken the drink. This fascinates me as a viewer tempting me to buy this drink and get a taste of it.
The show brought out this drink to imply that it is like the most delicious drink in the whole universe. It also portrayed that this drink is the one the stars in the entertainment industry take for them to remain stars and remain at the top. In addition, it brought out the fact that if you are no taking that drink then you are outdated. The actors in the show value the product and they connect it to who they have become. The product is also brought so real, and this makes viewers be motivated to purchase the product.
The placement of this drink at the particular part of the show was evident in that after this particular guy in the show took the drink he looked energized and refreshed implying this drink makes one energized.
This product placement was tied to the storyline in that everyone in the show started admiring them as they looked fresher. He became the star, and all the attention was on him.
Product placement has several benefits. First it is convenient and efficient since there is no channel switching so you can’t escape seeing it so long as one is enjoying the show.
Secondly it comes so randomly that you can’t escape to notice it. It is also makes one aware of any new products/service that are available in the market as they are evident in the show and their impact
It also educates the viewers on how the product is used as it is evident being utilized by the actors in the show. It also long-term form of advertisement if it appears in movies since anytime you are watching the movies it seems hence long-term
Lastly, the product placement is also persuasive hence very heard to escape it, and this makes one get interested I watching it even during advertisement time
