Midterm Project:

Impact of Case on Societal and Legal Development

For your Midterm Project, you are asked to locate a case that has impacted the development of society and criminal law.

You might consider beginning your research by a review of U.S. Supreme Court cases at the Oyez project or you can Google and search for landmark criminal cases.

Choose one 
published case of interest to you that addresses important issues in the field of criminal law. Be sure to choose a criminal rather than a civil case.

This week: Submit the case citation and one or two sentences about why you chose the case to your instructor for approval. 

While you are not asked to brief the case, your analysis should include the following:

1. Brief summary of the facts

2. Explanation of the legal issues relevant to criminal law

3. Analysis of the court’s holding and reasoning

4. Analysis of how culture influenced the court’s decision

5. Evaluation of the impact of this judicial ruling on the development of society and criminal law
