The goal of the project is to test 3 alternatives to be used for a stream crossing. They are:
1. One or two CMP culverts (look at both options, chose one and report). Remember, keep the diameters reasonable. Once you get past a diameter of 6 or 8 feet it is likely unreasonable for a project like this. 2. One or two box culverts (look at both options, chose one and report). Again keep the sizes reasonable, probably no more than 8×12 feet. 3. Finally a bridge opening. Remember, you might need a pier if the span is too much (let”s say 60 ft or more).
The goal is to look at the hydraulic capacity of each of these alternatives. This would be a rating curve (the WSEL at the just upstream cross-section before the structure versus the flow rate through the structure). You will find out that the bridge will be able to convey the most flow but it will also be the most expensive. After we complete our report, it would be up to the client to decide what option to build based off of cost and how much flooding can be tolerated. That part is beyond our goal here..we just want to give options. The final product from you for this assignment will be a documented report showing each alternative and the corresponding rating curves. Discussion on model development is needed as well. I”m thinking the report will be around 13 pages. This includes text, images, figures, tables,.etc.
